Online fan groups tied to The Wheel of Time have been in existence since the mid 1990s. Many of the earliest were IRC chat rooms or email rings, and we'll never forget the Age of AoL (pun intended). The foundations of most of the large forum-based community sites were also laid in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Some have stood the test of time, but others are only fondly remembered. In twenty years of history, thousands of fans have come and gone from hundreds of groups, most long forgotten, even by those who were involved. This cycle is a natural part of a fandom, but it is a tragedy when the pioneers are long gone and no one remembers any longer what came before. Annals of the Ages aims to change this, at least for our fandom, by collecting and preserving the knowledge and history of the greater Wheel of Time internet community. We need to do it now, though, before the links to the earliest groups are lost forever. Some may already be legends that have faded beyond myth into forgotten history. Help us preserve what we can while it's still possible!
The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again."
